Course Description

An introduction to biological oceanography and marine biology. This course surveys the vast biodiversity of the oceans from marine viruses and bacteria to invertebrates, fishes, marine reptiles, mammals, and seabirds. Topics include spatial and temporal patterns of productivity, food webs, energetics, ecology and evolution, and anthropogenic impacts on planktonic and benthic organisms and ecosystems. Prerequisites: BIOL 2052 or CHEM 2052
