Certificate in Co-Intelligence: Human-Centered Approach to Artificial Intelligence
The Certificate of Co-Intelligence (Human-Centered Approach to Artificial Intelligence) is an interdisciplinary, stand-alone, undergraduate 15-credit certificate to look at the impact of AI on 1) workforce skills, 2) ethics, 3) education and society, 4) the individual’s cognitive development and psychological well-being, and 5) discipline-specific study and work. It is intended for upper division students across HPU as well as employees in Hawaii who need workforce development in AI.
Admissions Requirements
Written Communication and Information Literacy I (WRI 1100 or WRI 1150) and Written Communication and Information Literacy II (WRI 1200 or WRI 1250); or Residential Honors (HON) 1000.
Program Learning Outcomes
To complete the certificate, students will take 5 courses that address the following 5 PLOs:
AI’s Impact on Workforce Skills: Students will learn to apply generative AI to real-world problems in diverse fields such as research, business, education, healthcare, and the creative arts.
AI’s Impact on Ethics: Students will learn to identify and analyze ethical issues arising from the collection, storage, and use of data in AI applications.
AI’s Impact on Education and Society: Students will learn how AI tools are reshaping education and/or other societal institutions.
AI’s Impact on the Individual’s Cognitive Development and Psychological Well-Being: Students will identify the effects that the use of AI has on memory, cognition, and emotional self-regulation.
AI’s Impact on Discipline Specific Study and Work: Students will learn strategies to effectively and ethically incorporate AI-assistance into their field of study or profession.
