Backgrounds to Literature

A course in intellectual and cultural history as well as literature, examining some of the greatest achievements and philosophical statements that have influenced Western literature and our contemporary thought. Students gain familiarity with writings that provided source material for the authors covered in the upper-level literature survey courses.
