Description

This course examines works by William Shakespeare from the perspective of interpretation for the stage, and explores the elements of literature with an eye toward performance. The class will examine how plot, character, setting, tone, symbolism, and other literary elements influence the choices directors, designers and actors make. It will also explore the historical context for the plays and the challenges of adapting them for contemporary audiences. The class will observe dramatic works as performed by the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival from pre-production to opening night.
