Description

Mental Health or Psychiatric Nursing provides an examination of the core concepts of mental health and mental illness across the lifespan. The influence of stress and trauma on biological, emotional, mental, cultural and spiritual well-being will be examined. The role of the psychiatric nurse in providing care to people experiencing emotional and behavioral distress will be a focus of the class. Appropriate application of nursing modalities including: self-reflection, psychotropic medications, milieu therapy, crisis intervention, and therapeutic communication skills will be integrated throughout the course. A clinical component (NUR 2981) must be taken concurrently.
