Language plays an important role in all matters of human life. In AL 1050, students examine historical and contemporary language use throughout the Pacific Basin, as well as in Hawaii. Through exploring topics such as, but not limited to, the effects of language contact, characteristics of pidgins and creoles, and stories of language loss and preservation, students develop a better understanding of, and appreciation for, cultural, political, and social issues in the world where they will live, work, and study.
