Course Description

This course examines both pedagogical and research issues in the teaching of second language speaking and listening skills across a range of educational contexts. Topics include listening comprehension processes, oral communication processes, communicative competence, language-focused learning, meaning-focused input, meaning focused output, fluency, syllabus design and lesson planning, and the assessment of listening and speaking skills. Course Restrictions: Restricted to students in the Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program and the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
